Gayela Children Foundation is a non-profit Community-Based Organization (NGO) located in Jinja District, Uganda. It was founded by a dedicated team of individuals: Julius, Florence (affectionately known as Mama Flo), and Miriam.
The organization was born from a deeply personal experience. One of the founders lost her daughter, who left behind a young child without both parents. This tragedy revealed a painful reality that is widespread in Uganda – an increasing number of children grow up without parental care or family support.
In Uganda, many families struggle with poverty and limited access to healthcare and education. In Jinja District, the number of vulnerable and homeless children, especially orphans, continues to grow, leaving many without proper care or opportunities for a better future. This situation highlightes the urgent need for safe and supportive environments where children can be protected and given the chance to thrive.
Gayela Children Foundation provides a safe home, nutritious food, healthcare and access to education for vulnerable children. The foundation supports children who have lost one or both parents, as well as those from families unable to provide the basic conditions needed for a healthy and fulfilling life. What began with the care of just two children has grown into a registered home for around twenty-five children, and the foundation continues to grow.
In addition to education and healthcare, children are encouraged to take part in activities such as farming, gardening, cooking and creative play. These experiences support their physical, emotional, and social development and empower them to build a brighter future for themselves. The founders remain actively involved, leading and supporting the organization to this day.
