Environmental well-being

At Gayela Children Foundation, we recognize the importance of caring for the environment as part of creating a healthy and sustainable living space for children. Our daily practices are guided by a commitment to reducing environmental impact, using resources responsibly, and maintaining clean and safe surroundings for the community we serve. Through these activities, we aim to teach and encourage children to develop respect and responsibility towards the environment.

  • Keeping our surroundings clean and free from litter.
    • Sorting and collecting plastic bottles and delivering them to designated recycling points.
    • Collecting general waste and disposing of it responsibly to keep the environment clean.
  • Growing a significant portion of our food (such as beans, cassava, bananas and other produce) in our own carefully maintained gardens and fields.
  • Using dry branches, fallen wood and other natural materials from our lands for cooking over an open fire.
  • Promoting sustainable use of organic waste by feeding fruit peels and natural plant materials to our goats.
  • Practicing upcycling by reusing and repurposing available materials wherever possible:
    • using jars for storage;
    • making bags from fabric scraps;
    • creating beads and craft materials from recycled paper;
    • reusing old clothes for cleaning or donating to those in need.
  • Promoting responsible water use by collecting and reusing rainwater for household activities such as washing clothes and dishes, using other available water sources when necessary.
